The legal process between telephone companies - By: Mathew Petrenko, Posted on: 2008-02-22

Do you know that there are exactly 60 seconds in one minute? But newly one of the IDT corporations announced that a lot of companies, which provide phone cards, propose only 36 seconds instead of 60. Many reputed corporations declared that there can't be any fair competition if one of rivals has unjust benefit before the start of a competition. IDT/UTA (Union Telecard Alliance) company made a resolve to sue the different corporations-providers of prepaid phone cards for the unfair rivalry conditions on a telephone services market.

IDT/UTA had asserted that different its proper calling cards, those of many of their competitors supply just about 60 percent of the minutes of telephone services announced and promoted on voice help heard by clients in connection with calls performed by using the defendants' cards and advertised by such competitors on radio, magazines, poster, global network, or another medium. In November 2007 Total Call International, Inc. and IDT/UTA have received a complete resolution of the lawsuit delivered by IDT Telecom, Inc. and Union Telecard Alliance, LLC versus Total Call. It is the fourth group of accused that have settled the litigation commenced by IDT/UTA. Epana Networks, Inc., Dollar Phone Corp. and related companies, and Locus Telecommunications, Inc are also involved into the trial. IDT/UTA's suit against the remaining defendants is still continuing in federal court in Newark, New Jersey. Not long ago, one of softswitch developers made public his advanced terms of paying the phone services. From now on every client will singly determine the size of the minute, not to pay for the time he doesn't utilize. But that system is not their whim. Faceforth, every call card corporation should reorganize all the terms and the method of payment this way.

That means that the international phone card, which is for $10.00, gives you 1000 minutes for conversations! You need to choose properly the cards to be assured you're buying what you pay for. The corporations, which have been drawn in this story, engaged for returning all the minutes to their consumers as soon as possible. IDT/UTA thinks that if all the accused agree with putting into operation the new standards, that can be good for them, as the arm of law will judge them more softly. They have to accede to promote industry best practices and rules that defend consumers of prepaid card services and that set up a level playing field for all companies that promote, and provide telephone services for, prepaid cards. They accede to evolve standards and mechanisms for testing the accuracy of disclosures and denials made in connection with prepaid phone cards. All the corporations came to terms that every of them has to do its best to solve this problem as soon as possible.
