The Story Behind A Shirt - By: Christine Layug, Posted on: 2008-04-10

When it comes to clothing lines, the makaveli collections truly stands out. But what truly make its collection very popular among the urban community and the hip hop nation? Well apart from its trend setting styles and fashion, its legacy behind it still lives. And from its name of makaveli, anyone from the urban community can remember who makaveli truly is.
2pac or more recently called makaveli was an American artist renowned for his rapping and hip hop music, as well as his movie roles, poetry, and his social activism. Receiving the title of highest selling rap artist in the Guinness Book of Record.
Apart from fame, fortune, and popularity, makaveli gained notoriety for his conflicts with the law. At the time when Tupac was still incarcerated, Tupac read and studied Niccolò Machiavelli and other published works, which inspired his pseudonym "makaveli".
He began serving his prison sentence at Clinton Correctional Facility on February 14, 1995. Shortly afterwards, he released his multi-platinum album “Me Against the World”. Shakur is the only artist ever to have an album at number one on the Billboard 200 while serving a prison sentence.
After serving eleven months of his one-and-a-half year to four-and-a-half year sentence, Shakur was released from the penitentiary, due in large part to the help and influence of Marion "Suge" Knight, CEO of Death Row Records. That is also the time when 2pac have started to use the name makaveli.
On September 7, 1996, makaveli or 2pac was shot and on September 13, 1996, at 4:03 pm, makaveli or 2pac was pronounced dead due to respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest in connection with multiple gunshot wounds.
Shakur or makaveli has one of the largest personal legacies of any music artist in the history of music. The music and messages in his work pervaded the styles of the following generations and his music had great impact all over the nation and world.
To preserve Shakur's legacy, his mother founded the Shakur Family Foundation (later re-named the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation or TASF) in 1997. And after seven years, his mother founded the makaveli branded clothing line, to further preserve the legacy of the greatest American rapper in the history of the music industry.
Up until today, the name makaveli can still be heard throughout the world because of the legacy he left in his foundations and clothing lines. For more information about the makaveli clothing apparels, then visit www.streetzwear.com.
