Unless you’ve come straight from a monastery and had an arranged wedding last month, you probably have found out that our wives love receiving presents. Unlike all guys, who like utilitarian gifts, most ladies will be rather annoyed if you give them sewing machines, even if it does make their life a lot better. For women, presents should be thoughtful and sentimental. It should enhance their perception of themselves. It should not be something that has a practical function. To them, that devalues the present. The majority of women concur that the awesomest presents are those that are given without a purpose. Just because you missed them. Not because they have an event like a birthday or a some special occasion. On those days a present is mandatory and thus it loses some of its meaning. The most noteworthy occasions are those where you give them a low-cost, or worthless trinket because you thought of them, or missed them and you wanted to mark some special occasion (that may not really exist) like a first date anniversary, or the first time you kissed. Something that has sentimental value will be appreciated and much more richly rewarded.

While the unusual woman might enjoy watches, it’s still too useful. Stuff like necklaces or bangles is always preferable, but unless you really know her style taste, you can make an expensive mistake which will not get the reaction it deserves. Does she prefer rubies over emeralds, diamonds over sapphires, stud earrings over long dangling ones? The variations are infinite and unless you convince her fill out a questionnaire, you might not be able remember when you’re at the store. You're more likely to make an expensive error under those shinning lights and gorgeous sales girls, who will always praise your choice of present and effort. Your woman will most likely fake appreciation, but unless she really wants that particular piece, she’s really counting how much money you’ve wasted, and what a moron you are.

Remind her that there’s more to life than just chores and relight the passion of when you first met.
