How To Have A Whiter, Bright Smile - By: Jennifer Stromsteen, Posted on: 2008-05-02

Everyone wants a great smile. For a killer smile, one should have sparkling, bright, and shiny teeth. Today, a lot of consumers are spending more money just to have their teeth whiter. They purchase the best teeth whitening treatments and undergo procedures to achieve brilliant white teeth.

The teeth whitening procedures are a bit expensive but still are an affordable way to brighten your smile. The procedures are safe and leave the surface of the tooth unharmed. Although everyone wants those pearly whites only a few actually can obtain the perfect white teeth. Teeth lightening procedures can only lighten the existing color and unfortunately teeth do seem to discolor as we age.

Our teeth can also be stained on the outer part because of the food and drink we eat. Coffee, tea, and red wine will discolor our teeth. Smoking is another cause of teeth discoloration. Most people may encounter staining beneath the surface which is caused by minute cracks in the teeth or certain antibiotics that absorb the stains.

The most prevalen way to whiten teeth is by bleaching. Always get the recommendation and approval of your dentist before beginning a teeth bleaching treatment. This method is done by putting a special gel or rubber guard on the soft tissue and then the bleaching chemicals will be applied to the teeth by using a special mouth shaped tray.

Laser whitening, otherwise known as power whitening, is often considered the best teeth whitening treatment. It is however rather expensive making it unaffordable to many.

The whitening effect of laser whitening can often produce results for as long as three years. Of course you are advised to avoid teeth discoloring activities such as smoking, drinking coffee and red wine, and eating products and snacks that may stain the teeth as well. Some people report a sensitivity of the tooth after laser whitening; however, they usually go away within a week.

There are other types of whitening for your teeth; the aforementioned ones were just the most popular. The most expensive, longest lasting, option is to have porcelain installed to cover your teeth. The cost can be significant but the results last for 15 years. There's nothing like the feeling you get when you flash that perfect smile.
