Family Parenting Parenting And Toilet Training - By: Jim Brown, Posted on: 2007-06-28

The hardest times that a new parent will face are establishing a feeding schedule for their newborn and helping their toddler learn to use the toilet like big people do. There are various stages that a child must go through and by far, toilet training can be the most challenging event in the life of their child.

The expense of diapers might prompt parents to urge their children toward toilet training before they are ready. Some families rejoiced when their child progressed from baby food to solid foods because the expense of baby food jar, juices and toddler foods almost wiped out the family budget. The cost of formula is increasing every year and many parents wonder how new mothers handle the cost associated with raising a child today.

Every parent wants to give positive encouragement to their child at all times, but there are varying degrees of positive reinforcement that can be applied to toilet training. If parents can keep in mind that their child will eventually learn the entire concept of sitting on the potty and completing the task at hand, they might fare better than pushing the child to do something that they do not have a full understanding of.

Many toddlers think toilet training is a game that Mommy plays with them. They know that Mom will make a big deal out of taking them to the bathroom after they eat, and they think that it is time to play when they wake up in the morning. The trip to the bathroom becomes a time to celebrate for the child and their mind is not on potty training at all. They just enjoy the attention that they are getting from Mom and Dad and it seems like Mom and Dad like to have playtime in the bathroom.

The parenting and toilet training era will pass and parents must develop a patience level that is very high. Parents should trade off on the duties of taking their child to the bathroom because one parent might be crankier than the other and getting mad at the child will not teach them what they need to learn. The child does need to understand the difference between playtime and potty time, and getting to know how your child thinks will get things headed in the right direction.

Parenting and toilet training skills can be enhanced by various products for toilet training that are available at supermarkets. There are training pants that resemble underwear that parents can give to their child to urge them toward wearing the prettier underwear that they see at department stores. Parents need to be consistent in the way that they react to accidents because children can get confused very easily during their toilet training period.
