Defensive Driving -- Politeness Is The Counterpoison To Dangerous Driving - By: Joshua Nestor, Posted on: 2007-08-22

In order to be courteous to a fellow human being, we first have to be mindful of them… to acknowledge them… isn’t that true? The dictionary uses the locution “consideration toward others” to depict politeness.

Let’s consider this for a moment, shall we? The more you march on towards being an expert driver, the easier it is to notice that the common concept of defensive driving is your cognizance of what’s developing outside your SUV.

Most all the issues, minus one, that can convert you into a negligent driver rotate around events within the passenger compartment. Phone calls, chatting to passengers, and writing email, enjoying music… all this is what distracts you from focusing on road situation.

The other factor is your mind-set. Excogitate it, if you are cheesed off about something, a driver's seat is not the best place to be and you should be self-conscious enough to conform your manner of driving till you chill out, or not drive at all. Your touchstone should always be politeness.

If you are courteous then a lot of good things are developing in that processor in your cranium. When you are nice, you are paying attention to what’s going on outside your car. You are also mindful to fellow drivers' demands, which is as decent as it gets. There are piles of opportunities on the average ride around town to be courteous to fellow drivers. They may not at all times perceive your politeness, but they generally do. In my long experience those minor kindnesses you distribute to complete strangers generally get returned back to you by other complete strangers as if by magic… kind of cool actually. You out of the blue discover drivers letting you into tight places when earlier they behaved like jerks… magic I advise you.

If you will just try to be as respectful as possible to fellow drivers for a week, I foreshow you will be astonished. It actually switches your whole perspective on driving while at the same time clearly setting you as a authentic class act. Now, who amongst us doesn’t aspire to be a class act?

What winds up developing, is that you shortly find yourself fishing for occasions to give the fellow driver a break, which makes you feeling great about yourself. It also focuses you… pay attention here… focuses you beyond the bubble in your car. You are focusing on what’s developing out there much more, when you try to be courteous to fellow drivers.

This minor exercise in human relations 101 can propel you from a mediocre driver to a pro in no time flat. So… you if you wish to be a good driver, it’s that easy… just give the fellow driver a break. Even if they don’t perceive it, you will be a righteous human being and an adept driver for doing it.
