When Michael J. Fox first became a hit character on the television sit com, Family Ties back in 1982, it was a smashing success. It ran until 1989. Fox played Alex P. Keaton on the show.

His character was very conservative and loved the world of business, while the parents on the show were very liberal. It made for hilarious and interesting contrast between the cast. Michael won several Emmys and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Alex P. Keaton.

As we all know, Michael J. Fox went on to rocket to stardom and was one of America's most loved young actors during the following years. His clean cut look and funny comedic charm had everyone going to see what ever shows or movies he played in.

During The Family Ties series, Fox was cast in Back to the Future. It was a phenomenal success. He played Marty McFly and was transported back in time by a car. The story line was great and Fox went on to make two more Back to the Future movies, the last one in 1990.

During the next six years after the cancellation of Family Ties in 1989, Michael made quite a few more movies. Some of these titles were Teen Wolf, Bright Lights, Big City, The Secret of My Success, Doc Hollywood, Life with Mikey, and several more. However well some of these did at the box office, they all went on to be big renters as video stores.

In 1991 Michael J. Fox was cast in another sit com series. Spin City was aired in 1996 and ran until 2002. He played the character Mike Flaherty on this show. He was a fictional deputy mayor in a supposed local government running New York City.

During the Spin City series Michael J. Fox made the information public that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He first began noticing early symptoms of the disease while he was filming the Doc Hollywood movie in 1990, but was not formally diagnosed until the following year. He worked with the condition until 2002 when he left Spin City and was replaced with Charlie Sheen taking on a new role in the show.

Although Fox has appeared in small parts in a few series since then, he is largely retired from acting. He is married and has four children. He spends a great deal of his life pursuing the advancements of stem cell research that is thought to be a possible cure for Parkinson's disease. His career was cut way to short by this debilitating illness.
